Black Sun Rising: A 9th Level Adventure for 5th Edition
Every few thousand years, the celestial bodies around Arden align in such a way that certain powerful magics and rituals can be enacted. The arrival of the Black Sun, a rare solar eclipse, is one such event. The devil worshipping Cult of the Bloody Hand has long sought to bring forth their fiendish master to this realm, but lacked the power to do so. Hoping to take advantage of the eclipse's powers, they've begun the process of gathering the necessary items and preparing the proper ritualistic markings. The cult plans on using the small hamlet of Hallthorn as their base of operations until the eclipse is underway, at which point they'll enact their fiendish rituals and summon forth their devilish master to this plane.
The cult has long since called Hallthorn home. The settlement itself was founded by the first followers of the Bloody Hand and used as a way to capture passing travelers and sacrifice them to their dark master. Tunnels connect the various basements of the hamlet's buildings allowing the cultists to move unseen, and a hidden temple to their master lies beneath the inn. As the time of the eclipse gets closer and closer, the cult has begun to feel an unease. They do their best to move travelers along who try to stop in town, not wanting them to discover their dark dealings so close to their completion. They fear discovery almost as much as they fear failing their master.
