Jarl Haldor Stronghide has ruled over his island with an iron fist for decades. Under his rule, the island has remained free of outside influence and safe from the surrounding barbarian tribes. Recently, however, a nearby island's Jarl has made it his mission to capture Haldor's hold and crush his rule once and for all before absorbing his rival's kingdom into his own. To this end, he's enlisted a mercenary company known as the Crimson Shadows to lay siege to Haldor's hold and try to break his spirit. Haldor's hold lies at the base of a long valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. As such, it's defenses are formidable and the siege has stalled. Though the mercenaries can not breach the hold's walls, its denizens are sure to run out of supplies and starve within a month.

Luckily for Haldor, ancient pacts with other barbarian Jarls demand they come defend him if called. All he needs to do is send a messenger through the enemy lines and to lighthouse on the highest peak in the land. Once the fires there are lit, aid will come. Unfortunately, none of the men Haldor has sent have made it. Now, he's hoping a band of adventurers that were inside his hold when the siege started can be the ones to finally reach the lighthouse and summon the aid needed to rout the invaders once and for all.
