Assault on Black Keep: An 11th Level Adventure for 5th Edition
The Black Keep has stood at the entrance to the Valley of Death for countless centuries. The valley itself was once the site of a terrible battle, and dark energies still pulse and flow through the soil there. It's said that anything buried in the valley is doomed to rise as an undead abomination. In order to keep the lands east of the valley safe from anything that might come out, the keep was established as a defensive position from which a small group of warriors could hold off an exponentially larger force.
Over the years, many small bands of undead have found their way to the valley's entrance, and each time they've been destroyed or repelled by the denizens of the keep. In recent years, however, all has been quiet, and the keep has fallen into partial disrepair as its importance was slowly lost to the annals of history. In fact, only a skeleton crew (pun intended) mans the Black Keep these days along side its steward, Lord Edgar Briarthorn. Should an attack occur like the ones of old, they'd surely be overwhelmed. Unfortunately, for them, that's precisely what is about to occur.
A large band of undead has gathered around a strange abomination. Fueled by hatred and full of intelligence far beyond what any undead should have, it's leading them towards the keep in an effort to breach its walls and finally escape the valley where it's been trapped for ages. As the sun begins to set, the horde comes hungrily forward. If the defenders of the keep cannot hold strong, all is lost.
